I got caught off guard with this one but it shows the beauty of passing down the torch to the new generation of bladers which in this case is my son Brian. In the new Mal Ashby edit entitled “Air To The Montage” Gregory Preston put a little something together for Malik since he is now enrolled in the Army and won’t have that much time to blade for awhile. I would like to thank Malik for stepping up and defending our country. Much love and respect for life my brother…CHXXRS!

Roll In Peace Kanuf Nagi

This morning I found out that NYC Legend Kanuf Nagi went on to be with the Lord. It is one of those instances where you wish you had more time with that person. I bumped into him here and there and it was always great catching up while reminiscing on good times past. Kanuf was a huge influence on me when I first started blading. I used to only skate street but seeing him kill the ramps at Mullaly’s was inspiring. He definitely helped bring big air with style to NYC blading. And off of skates he was a caring and funny person. One of my favorite memories of Kanuf was when I worked at Chelsea Piers Skatepark and Kanuf rolled through with fresh skates with a big smile on his face since he started blading again after a hiatus. Included above is his clips in the classic “No Limits”. Kanuf’s clips start at 1:47.

If you have been blading for more than a decade and you resided in New York than you definitely remember my great friend Gustavo Carcamo. Gusto came back to NYC about a week ago to visit family and of course to strap on the dusty blades for an OG session at Coleman Skatepark with some of the original P62 crew (which includes myself, Ruben Perez, Joseph Fernandez and many more).

In celebration of the life of Brian “Cozmik” Scott, NYC bladers united as one for a session in honor of our fallen brother. Many bladers showed up, traded great stories about Cozmik and had an amazing session. Many thanks to IRollNY, Flatlines Skateshop, Rollerwarehouse & Tri-State Skate for providing prizes to those blading hard for this memorial event. Here are some random pics that I snapped during the day…enjoy!

Introducing “Piss Rail”

Back in the days me and this rail went together like PB&J. Every time I picked up a fresh new pair of blades I usually bladed to this spot at night by myself when no one was around in order to break them in. It is a short mellow little thing but it is still fun as hell to skate on. It is just close enough to the wall to make you slightly hesitant on boot tricks but just far enough from the wall that your boot won’t catch the ledge if you are on your trick correctly.

An American Hero: Jon Morciglio

Posted in My Ramblings, Dedications, RESPECT, Respect Due with tags , , , , on June 23, 2011 by lordbrian

Several years ago in the NYC blading scene there was an individual with an unforgettable last name who kept on popping up all over the place in contest rankings, sessions and dvd’s such as “Slideshow” & “Hyphy’s 1,2 & 3″ and even a page in the bible of blading ”The Daily Bread. His name is Jon Morciglio. By the time he became a recognizable and pronounceable name in NYC he abruptly moved to California and became known on an even more mainstream level. At the peak of his fame he suddenly disappeared only resurfacing in a few clips here and there in various Vinny Minton online edits.
